{"id":362,"date":"2012-10-28T10:13:23","date_gmt":"2012-10-28T17:13:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/wordpress\/?page_id=362"},"modified":"2012-10-28T10:38:31","modified_gmt":"2012-10-28T17:38:31","slug":"gallery-3","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/wordpress\/exhibits\/stephen-chandler\/gallery-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Gallery Hall 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Stephen Chandler Exhibit<\/h2>\n<h3>FEATHER RIVER CANYON RUN OF U.P. 844<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/images\/chandler\/feather_river_canyon_%20run_844_L.jpg\" alt=\"Feather River Run\" width=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The approaching and receding sounds of steam locomotion echoing off canyon walls fully equal the sights of # 844 chuffing up the grade, through rain and fog this Spring morning.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0How exciting to hear these sounds approaching long before it&#8217;s dramatic appearance !\u00a0\u00a0 I waited in a steady rain for about an hour to catch this image.\u00a0 My camera, wrapped in plastic bags stayed a lot drier than I did.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Thoroughly soaked, I reveled in the experience,\u00a0\u00a0relishing those sounds as it drifted off in the distance.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>STEAM OVER FLEISCH BRIDGE &#8211; VERDI<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/images\/chandler\/steam_over_fleisch_bridge_844_%20L.jpg\" alt=\"844 on Fleich Bridge\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Almost always with train photo work there is the long wait and anticipation of the drama before the decisive moment actually arrives .\u00a0\u00a0 Technical photographic preparation is always a must,\u00a0 and the imaginative experience of &#8220;getting the shot&#8221; is intense.\u00a0\u00a0 I have always been attracted to this bridge over the Truckee River and Fleisch Power House .\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0It is so rare and fantastic when STEAM is the action !<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>MORNING TRAIN<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/images\/chandler\/morning_train_through_curves_%20L.jpg\" alt=\"Morning Train\" width=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This location is the\u00a0beautiful S bend curves in the track above Lake Theodore in Clipper Gap .\u00a0\u00a0 In this image,\u00a0 I am in sitting position with hand held camera and long lens.\u00a0\u00a0 Plenty of strong light is present in this mid morning exposure,\u00a0 making the tripod only an option.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Many times the playful aspect of hand held work is a strength in itself.\u00a0\u00a0 In this image, an everyday scene seems special to me because of that &#8220;snaking&#8221; shape.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>TRAIN UNDER HIGHWAY 40 BRIDGE<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/images\/chandler\/train_under_hwy_40_bridge_%20L.jpg\" alt=\"Train Under the Hwy 40 Bridge\" width=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Auto rack rail cars are one of my favorite\u00a0type of rail cars\u00a0for train photo work.\u00a0\u00a0 Bright reflectance and streaky details stand out so well against darker backgrounds.\u00a0\u00a0 This bridge, the one at Secret Town Road,\u00a0 is so wonderful itself, in it&#8217;s &#8220;oldness&#8221; and historic value.\u00a0\u00a0 Long shutter openings again here, providing what, to me, is a beautiful and exciting &#8220;departure from reality&#8221; [ as Ansel Adams used to say it ]\u00a0.\u00a0 He referred to black and white photography as one major element of abstraction, and feature of the photographic art that departs from a sometimes boring and mundane attempt at imitation of reality.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The photos presented here are the property of Stephen Chandler.\u00a0 All rights reserved.
