{"id":355,"date":"2012-10-28T10:08:15","date_gmt":"2012-10-28T17:08:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/wordpress\/?page_id=355"},"modified":"2012-10-28T10:35:41","modified_gmt":"2012-10-28T17:35:41","slug":"gallery-1","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/wordpress\/exhibits\/stephen-chandler\/gallery-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Gallery Hall 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Stephen Chandler Exhibit<\/h2>\n<h3>Steam Into Colfax<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/images\/chandler\/UP_844_front_end_detail.jpg\" alt=\"Steam Into Colfax\" width=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This image was photographed in Colfax, as U.P. steam locomotive # 844 was slowing for a stop.\u00a0\u00a0 The light was great for making a close-up detail, and\u00a0the excitement intense,\u00a0as the\u00a0steam billowed,\u00a0mixing with the smell of hot oil and grease.\u00a0\u00a0Of course those sounds !\u00a0 \u00a0Combine these elements of steam railroading\u00a0with the focus and practice of action photography for a very memorable experience !<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Train at Desert Edge<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/images\/chandler\/train_at_desert_edge.jpg\" alt=\"Train at Desert Edge\" width=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This image,\u00a0 exposed from the playa of Nevada&#8217;s Black Rock Desert,\u00a0 is &#8211; for me &#8211; a powerful example of how a train subject works within an amazing landscape.\u00a0 One augments and compliments the other.\u00a0 Here,\u00a0 the train gives awesome scale to the land,\u00a0 and the land does the same for the train.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I estimate the train to be about three miles away from the camera position in this image.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 So many elements had to &#8220;come together&#8221; for this image to work.\u00a0 Timing, lighting, type of rail cars [ auto racks reflecting the sun ] , being ready with the camera were vital .<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Boy By Steam Gear<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/images\/chandler\/boy_by_steam_gear_up_844.jpg\" alt=\"Boy by Steam Gear UP 844\" width=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This image,\u00a0 grabbed\u00a0at the spur of the moment, during the posing of this little boy [ by his father I am guessing ] &#8211; is another image showing &#8220;scale&#8221;\u00a0.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What better way than this stiffly posed little character to show the size of the side rods\u00a0, journals , drivers and gear of U.P.locomotive 844 &#8211; on display in Roseville !<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Track 2 Vertical Abstract<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/images\/chandler\/track_2_vertical_abstract_L.jpg\" alt=\"Track 2 Vertical Abstract\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of two abstract images done at the double tracked\u00a0S\u00a0curves\u00a0near Clipper Gap.\u00a0 This vertically exposed frame was made with a 700 mm lens , \u00a0tripod mounted ,\u00a0with a 2 second shutter speed\u00a0, focused on\u00a0an oncoming freight\u00a0blasting hard\u00a0and loud up track # 2.\u00a0\u00a0 This stretch of track is probably close to 1\/2 mile in\u00a0length.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The very\u00a0long\u00a0focal length used here &#8220;stacks up the image&#8221; nicely, adding to the non literal rendition of the hurtling mass.\u00a0\u00a0 Late afternoon light mixed with dust is where all this color originates !<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Night Train, Clipper Gap<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psrhs.org\/images\/chandler\/night_train_double_stack_L.jpg\" alt=\"Night Train - Double Stack\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the companion abstract image\u00a0made at the S curves near Clipper Gap.\u00a0\u00a0 This one\u00a0exposed well after sunset, \u00a0again , \u00a0a very long shutter speed of I think about 18 seconds or more.\u00a0\u00a0 In this image ,\u00a0 a stack train is gliding west on track # 1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Alternate single and double stacked cars are entering and leaving the space that the open shutter is &#8220;seeing&#8221; , causing the streaks and ghost trails .\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The color is caused by an extremely red sunset afterglow which has had a chance to build up on the big digital camera&#8217;s image sensor.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The photos presented here are the property of Stephen Chandler.\u00a0 All rights reserved.
